Diabetes affects multiple body systems such as your vision, nerves, foot problems, problems healing, the kidneys, and can lead to heart problems. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention CDC 29.1 million U.S. citizens are living with diabetes. â€Å"Diabetes mellitus has become a global nuisance, associated with high levels of morbidity and mortality. The disease will become an epidemic if continues on this route† (Kosti Kanakari, 2012, p. 654). â€Å"The World Health Organization WHO has issued a call to action on diabetes, drawing attention to the need to step up prevention and treatment of the disease. According to the WHO’s first Global report on diabetes, people living with diabetes has quadrupled since 1980 and there were 1.5 million deaths in 2012 from diabetes† (WHO, 2016). The rise has been attributed to the increase in obesity and unhealthy diet. Diabetes affects globally and has increased exponentially.
